At Woodside Post 16 Hub, we support young people aged 16 to 19 to build the skills, confidence and independence they need for adult life.
We know that every young person has different strengths, interests and aspirations. Our personalised approach allows pupils to follow learning pathways that reflect their individual needs and future goals, whether that is further education, employment, supported internships or greater independence.
Our experienced staff provide a supportive and engaging learning environment where pupils can continue to develop their academic skills while also gaining practical life skills. Alongside English and Mathematics, pupils access a range of opportunities including work experience, travel training, careers education, community activities and preparation for adulthood programmes. These experiences help pupils develop confidence, independence and the skills needed for life beyond school.
Preparation for Adulthood is at the heart of everything we do. Through learning both in and out of the classroom, pupils are supported to develop skills in:
- Employment and further education
- Independent living
- Health and wellbeing
- Community inclusion, friendships and relationships
We have high expectations for every pupil and work closely with families and other professionals to ensure each young person is well prepared for their next steps.
Assessment
Assessment helps us understand each pupil’s progress and plan the next steps in their learning.
We recognise and celebrate achievement in all its forms, from gaining qualifications and developing new skills to increased confidence, independence and progress towards individual EHCP outcomes. Assessment is ongoing and is used to ensure learning remains relevant, appropriately challenging and personalised to each pupil’s needs.

OPTIONS
At KS5 each pupil will have the opportunity to choose and study a range of specialist subjects. There is a wide range of specialist subjects available, spanning a variety of exam board subject specifications (GCSE, ELC, Functional Skills, BTEC, NCFE, Trinity Rock & Pop and UAS). Examples include:

KS5 Option selection process:
Each academic year, the KS5 option curriculum booklet with subject snapshots of the current offer at Woodside Post 16 Hub is shared with pupils and parents. Our pupils will follow a broad and balanced curriculum, which prepares them for future study, careers and skills for independent living. During our options evenings, pupils and parents have the opportunity to meet with subject teachers and ask any questions. Following this, pupils are given the option sheets to select from four option pathways, which will be reviewed by the subject specialist teacher to ensure pupils are entered and achieve the accredited qualifications relevant to their academic ability.
